The content created for the University of Vaasa’s blog and website service is governed by the University of Vaasa’s Rules for IT Services. By creating a website in the service (incl. a blog), you commit to complying with these operating rules as well as good netiquette:
- Any content you create is public and governed by the same laws and rules as other publications. As the administrator of the website, you are responsible for the content you create. Raising discussion, opinions and interaction with readers are recommended, but any inappropriate posts or insults targeted at individuals do not belong to the websites of this service.
- As the administrator of the website, you are ultimately responsible also for the content of comments. The website administrator must moderate possible comments and not accept any inappropriate comments for publication.
- Blogs posted in the service are written under one’s own name, not anonymously. Please remember that as a member of our academic community, you participate in creating the image of the University of Vaasa and its operations.
- As the writer, you hold the copyright to the content you create. With other content, please remember to make sure that you have the rights to use the material you are about to publish. Also remember to ask the permission of colleagues and other private persons if you are planning on publishing pictures or videos from private events.
- Respect both your own and others’ privacy. Everything you publish about yourself in the blog is public and can be found years later with your name through a search engine. Consider what is appropriate to write about others’ private lives without them knowing.
- The service is not intended for commercial, ideological, political or religious activities. In political activities, the exceptions are university elections and the activities of student associations or their affiliates and the personnel’s trade unions.
The Information Security Manager monitors that the websites in the service comply with the rules for IT services, and the online editorial staff monitors netiquette with respect to the content. Administrative violations can be reported to the online editorial staff at www-tuki@univaasa.fi.
Limitations of liability
The websites that exist in the service do not represent the University of Vaasa or the University’s official opinion. The website administrators and persons commenting on the content are responsible themselves for their content.
If a complaint is made about the website that turns out justified, the online editorial staff or the Information Security Manager contacts the website administrator in order to have the content or comment that caused the complaint removed or edited. If the administrator cannot be reached and the content is clearly inappropriate, the main administrator may remove the content or comments. The website administrator nevertheless holds the primary responsibility. The University of Vaasa does not restrict the expression of opinions. It only intervenes in case of clearly offensive or illegal material if the website administrator fails to act.
The University of Vaasa reserves the right to shut down or remove websites created in the service if e.g. administrative responsibilities have been neglected, an activity on the website ends, or the content of the website expires. In the mentioned cases, the online editorial staff always tries to first contact the website administrators to discuss different alternatives and the schedule. If the administrators are reached, they are given the option to get a copy of the website to be shut down created with the export tool of WordPress.
For observations of material that violates the Finnish law or good etiquette, please contact www-tuki@univaasa.fi.
