Courses in Digital Marketing

Open university courses for people who have been granted temporary protection.

Business Studies in English

The study module "Business Studies Essentials" will not be offered during the academic year 2024–2025. Instead, there are three courses in Digital Marketing available in the University of Vaasa Open University.

Courses in Digital Marketing in Autumn 2024

The University of Vaasa Open University offers in total three courses in digital marketing in English during the Autumn semester 2024:  

  • Essentials of Digital Marketing and Online Platforms, 5 ECTS
  • Content Marketing and Media Planning, 5 ECTS
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Marketing, 5 ECTS

Students can apply for each individual course separately, more detailed information about course curriculum and the application process below. 

Who can apply?

Open University courses are open for anyone interested. Please note, that the implementations that are free of charge are primarily targeted to those living in Finland due to temporary protection (e.g. the Ukrainians). Degree students and exchange students can enrol to degree students’ implementations in Peppi.

Apply individually for each course that you wish to attend to. You can choose only one or multiple courses. Please note, that as of 1 August 2024, only persons with a Finnish personal identity code can be accepted as a student at the Open University of the University of Vaasa. A personal identity code is issued to a person registered in Finland's Population Information System. In addition, when enrolling, the person must identify themselves strongly, which is primarily done using Finnish online banking codes or a mobile certificate.

Kindly note, that in order to complete the courses, you will need a computer and Internet connection as well as sufficient knowledge in English. In some courses, participating in teaching requires the use of camera and microphone. Before application, we recommend you to take a self -assessment test to determine your current level in English language. The recommended level for these English courses in Digital Marketing is B2.

What do I need to complete these courses?

To successfully complete these courses, you will need a computer, Internet connection and sufficient knowledge in English language. In some courses, participating in teaching requires the use of camera and microphone.

How much is the course fee?

If you are currently living in Finland due to temporary protection (e.g. the Ukrainians), these courses are free of charge during the academic year 2024–2025. For everyone else, the course fee is 12€/ECTS.

When can I apply for these courses?

The application for autumn 2024 semester will begin in 13th August 2024

Before application

As all the courses are taught in English, we recommend you to take this self-assessment test to determine your current level in English language.

Self-assessment test in English language

Before application, we recommend you to take this English test for self-assessment. You can use this test to help determine if you have sufficient language skills (B2) to complete the Digital Marketing courses taught in English at the Open University of the University of Vaasa. This test does not provide you with any certificate and is for self-assessment only. Once you begin, you will have 30 minutes to complete the test.

12-17 points, your level is A2-B1
18-24 points, your level is B1-B2
25 points, your level is B2 or higher

Course curriculum and application for Autumn 2024 semester

Apply for each individual course separately

During the academic year 2024–2025 the three course implementations free of charge in digital marketing are primarily targeted to those living in Finland due to temporary protection (e.g. the Ukrainians).

  • Apply separately and instantly for every course you wish to attend to. You'll find the links to the course descriptions and application links below.
  • To be able to do the application you'll have to attach the decision for temporary protection to your application form.
  • The application period for a course ends always before the course starts. Only applications received within the application period are taken into account.
  • Please note, that as of 1 August 2024, only persons with a Finnish personal identity code can be accepted as a student at the Open University of the University of Vaasa.
  • The courses have a limited number of places. The places will be filled in the order of application, taking into account the following:
    • The student selection is conditional until your application information and the attachments have been reviewed. Student selection may be dissolved if the necessary attachment is not provided or if the applicant has provided incorrect information in their application.

Essentials of Digital Marketing and Online Platforms, 5 ECTS (3.9.2024  18.10.2024)

Content: The course has seven learning cycles (LCs):

LC1: Introduction to digital marketing
LC2: Search-engine optimization
LC3: Online advertising
LC4: Social media marketing
LC5: Digital analytics
LC6: Conversion optimization
LC7: Digital marketing ethics

Each learning cycle lasts one week.
 

Instruction time and location:

Weekly sessions in daytime both online in Zoom and in Vaasa campus. NB! Sessions on campus are MANDATORY.

Content Marketing and Media Planning, 5 ECTS (5.11.2024  5.12.2024)

Content: This course is designed to give you the basics of strategic content marketing and media planning. Content marketing sits on the cutting edge of social, cultural and consumer trends. The content is designed to give you an understanding of how to place the right content, in the right format, at the right time, to the right audience, while also creating a dialogue; having a conversation with your target audience. In doing so, you will learn about things like building brand awareness, audience analysis, content calendars, developing a brand voice, lead generation as well as audience engagement

3 x 2h lectures during daytime online in Zoom.

Studying in Open University

We have listed instructions for Open University students regarding user accounts, Moodle online learning environment, Peppi- student information system etc.

You can find all the instructions on this website.

After you have completed the course(s), all the grades will be registered in Peppi -student information system. Please note, that the Open University does not automatically send  transcript of your studies to you. Instead, you can order an official electronic transcript of your studies straight from Peppi.

You can find your grade in Peppi by logging into https://opiskelija.peppi.uwasa.fi with your user account and by choosing either ‘PSP’ on the front page OR Studies > Completed studies from the top menu of the front page.

You can also order an official electronic transcript of your studies from the Study certificates tab or from the front page with the ‘Transcripts of records’ button. The transcript appears in the Documents section and can be downloaded from there to your device.
