Annukka Jokipii appointed as Vice Rector of the University of Vaasa
Jokipii is currently working at University of Vaasa as professor of Accounting. Her successful career at the University of Vaasa has encompassed research and education as well as the development of education since 1998. The many positions she has held include researcher, Academy of Finland postdoc researcher and university researcher, and she has been in charge of the Master's programme in Accounting and Auditing. Jokipii's research topics have focused on internal control, internal auditing and fraud in companies. She also has a vocational teacher qualification.
The Vice Rector of the University of Vaasa collaborates closely with the Rector in strategic planning and acts as deputy to the Rector. The Vice Rector is responsible for developing research and researcher education and for leading the development of teaching. The Vice Rector actively monitors education policies and related legislation and is responsible for their implementation at the University. The duties also include actively representing the university in national and international research and education networks.
“Besides a solid understanding of universities, Annukka Jokipii will bring into our evolving operations a solution-oriented way of thinking and excellent communication and networking skills,” says the University's Rector, Jari Kuusisto.
In her free time, Jokipii participates in reservist activities. She has completed voluntary military service for women and served as peacekeeper in Kosovo. From 2016 to 2018, Jokipii acts as Chairman of the Commission for Legal Affairs at CISOR, the parent organisation of the national European NCO Reserve Corps.

The University of Vaasa is renewing itself and will be making significant investments in the development of research and operations during the upcoming years. The research investments will be directed through three open multidisciplinary research platforms: Vaasa Energy Business Innovation Centre - VEBIC, Digital Economy, and Open and User Innovation Lab - InnoLab. Their operations focus on energy and sustainable development, digital economy, and innovations and forms of open science. As of January 2018, the renewal will be strengthened by four academic units: Management, Accounting and Finance, Marketing and Communication, and Technology and Innovations.
