Christmas gift funding of half a million euros from Parliament to the Kvarken Space Center at the University of Vaasa
On Wednesday 11 December, Parliament allocated what is known as Christmas gift funding. The Kvarken Space Center at the University of Vaasa received a 500,000-euro allocation for infrastructure development.
The funds will be especially invested in the implementation and testing of the KvarkenSat small satellite, the development of small satellite training infrastructure, and the strengthening of space economy cooperation in the Kvarken region.
The purpose of the Kvarken Space Center is to serve as a long-term innovation hub for the new space economy, helping companies on both sides of the Kvarken develop business opportunities and utilise available space data.
– Warm thanks to the regional members of Parliament. We are pleased to receive funding for the second consecutive year. We consider this a significant recognition of our university's role as a societal influencer and promoter of RDI activities, says Rector Minna Martikainen.
