This December, 64 students are receiving their master’s degree upon graduation from the University of Vaasa. The university is organising the degree ceremony Publiikki to celebrate the students who have completed their master’s degree during the autumn term on Wednesday 18 December.

Publiikki is a biannual degree ceremony.

– This is one of the most important and unique day of your lives. So, stop to celebrate this moment and reflect on your time at the University of Vaasa and the lessons you have learned for your professional life, Rector of the University of Vaasa Minna Martikainen encouraged in her speech.

In her speech, Martikainen reminded that the graduates are a highly educated generation who will solve the challenges of the future.

– At the beginning of your career, it can feel uncertain or as if you don't have everything under control yet. And I can assure you that the feeling of "I don't have it under control" will be repeated many times in your life. Otherwise, things will not evolve. At each new stage, you look for your place and feel insecure. That is the only way to become stronger.

– At the University of Vaasa, you have received internationally renowned and award-winning teaching. This year, our university has been awarded AACSB accreditation in business studies, which reflects the quality and excellence of our education and research. Only less than 6% of the world's business schools have received this recognition. In international rankings, we are among the top 500 universities in the world. In business administration, we are the best in Finland.  Yesterday, we passed the FINEEC audit, which looked at the quality management and development of our university. So, you can be very proud of your alma mater!

In addition to 173 students from master’s degree programmes, 133 bachelors and eight doctors graduate from the University of Vaasa during the autumn semester. International students account for 18 % of the students who have completed a master’s degree. A total of 306 students will get their bachelor’s and master’s degrees this autumn.
