Marko Järvenpää elected to the committee of the IMA Research Foundation
The Institute of Management Accountants, IMA is a major association of accountants and financial professionals in business. The association supports research and education in the field. IMA has 140,000 members and it grants CPA (Certified Management Accountant) authorisations.
The IMA Research Foundation, IRF funds research on accounting and financial management. To date, the foundation has bestowed more than one million USD in research grants upon academics and doctoral students. Järvenpää's task, together with the rest of the committee, is to develop research on accounting and financial management in various ways, for example by evaluating applications for research grants.
– As a member of the committee, I will gain new perspectives on the current state, development and future of the work of financial management professionals in the United States and globally. In addition, the appointment could bring new opportunities cooperate in research and education, says Järvenpää.
Järvenpää thinks that the appointment was influenced by his diverse research work and collaboration with Dr Kip Krumwiede, the Director of Research at IMA. Järvenpää´s main research interests include the work of financial administration and accounting professionals and its development to support management. In addition, he has studied the development and application of innovations in management accounting. Krumwiede, IMA's Director of Research, is also well-known at the University of Vaasa, as he is involved in our new research project. That has received funding from the Business Education Fund to research the effects of digitalisation on financial management.
