UN sustainable development goal: Life below water
The world’s rivers, oceans, and lakes are home to an astounding array of fish, animal, and plant life, but they are under threat from human activities. Water is also important for culture and trade. The international shipping industry is responsible for the carriage of around 90% of world trade. Therefore, carbon dioxide emissions from ships must be minimised, which is a major research goal at the University of Vaasa. We also have a number of space-data-related research projects underway. Transportation and logistics, along with monitoring water quality and environmental factors, can leverage space data.
UN's Sustainable Development Goals
Humanity faces significant challenges because of its own actions. The UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development addresses these challenges with a lofty objective: to place global development on a path to ensure human well-being and human rights, economic prosperity, and social stability in an environmentally sustainable manner. These are the challenges that the University of Vaasa is also addressing. Click on the icons below to see examples of our sustainability work.
