Language, Culture and Time: Konferenssi englannin tutkijoille ja yliopisto-opettajille 9-10.10.2015 Vaasan yliopistolla.

Järjestyksessään seitsemäs FINSSE konferenssi on avoin Finnish Society for the Study of English -seuran jäsenille ja muille kiinnostuneille.

  • Seminaarin ensimmäinen avauspuheenvuoro perjantaina klo 14:00 Fabriikissa salissa F140 on avoin koko yliopistoyhteisölle (henkilökunta ja opiskelijat): Professori Mihaela Irimia: Time and Timas: Classic modernity and the modernities of today

Keynote speakers:

Professor Susanna Paasonen, Media Studies, University of Turku: “Social media, distraction and the perpetual future”

Professor Mihaela Irimia, Director for the Centre of Excellence for the Study of Cultural Identity, University of Bucharest: Classic modernity and the modernities of today”

Professor Maria Kuteeva, Director of the Centre for Academic English, University of Stockholm: "Academic communication in a digital age: blogs, wikis, and tweets in the research world"

The participation fee is 65 € for graduate students and 85 € for staff. The fee includes the reception organized by the City of Vaasa on Friday, lunches and snacks.  On Saturday, dinner payable on registration will be served. Registration is available at the conference website at www.uwasa.fi/finsse together with information about housing and travel.

Preliminary programme:

  • The conference will be opened Friday at 13:45,
  • The first plenary session at 14:00 is open to the university community:  Professor Mihaela Irimia: Time and Times: Classic modernity and the modernities of today (Fabriikki F140)
  • The second Friday plenary at 16:50-17:50: Professor Susanna Paasonen: Social media, distraction and perpetual future
  • On Friday evening the City of Vaasa will host a reception for conference participants.
  • There is a poster session on Saturday morning, followed by seminar sessions and lunch.
  • The third plenary at 13:00-14:00 on Saturday: Maria Kuteeva: Academic communication in a digital age: blogs, wikis, and tweets in the research world
  • The last seminar session ends at 17:00 on Saturday
