How did you learn about University of Vaasa? 

As a child, whenever I gazed at the night sky, I was fascinated by the small, bright dots that moved among the stars. Full of curiosity, I would ask my father about these "moving stars." He told me they were satellites orbiting Earth. I always wondered how they managed to avoid colliding with the stars. At times, when my father found it challenging to explain, he would jokingly say that maybe I should grow up and study satellites to understand their journey through the sky.

After finishing my bachelor's in Computer Engineering, I still had those childhood questions about satellites and stars in my mind. Those early childhood curiosities about satellites and radios stayed with me, sparking a desire to deeply understand how they work. This inspired my search for master's programs in Communications Engineering, where I hoped to find the answers I had been seeking. In my quest for the perfect university and program, I encountered many that either fell short in international rankings or had less-than-stellar graduate job rates. It wasn't until I discovered the University of Vaasa that things clicked. They offered a program uniquely combining Systems and Communications Engineering, which perfectly matched my interests. Additionally, their strong international ranking was a big plus.

What are your best memories from your studies and your student life in Vaasa?

My time in Vaasa was filled with wonderful memories. I met incredible people, made great friends, and we went on so many trips together. These are moments I will always cherish and hold dear. My teachers were amazing; they made even the hardest courses a piece of cake. 

Each day at the university brought something new and exciting. I not only learned academically but also grew personally through my interactions and experiences. We had countless late-night study sessions, laughter-filled lunches, and even the occasional stressful exam period, which somehow always ended with a sense of achievement. The campus itself was a little world of its own, no wonder why it is the most beautiful campus in Finland. 

All of these memories at university and in Vaasa will be a chapter in my life I will always look back on fondly.

Why would you recommend others to apply to the University of Vaasa? 

I would always recommend the University of Vaasa to anyone seeking an education that goes beyond just theory. It's an institution that truly understands the importance of practical knowledge. It stands out as one of the best for offering quality education, with programs thoughtfully designed to align with real-world applications, not just theoretical concepts. 

University of Vaasa is ideal for those who also seek to experience a multicultural environment, fostering both academic and personal growth. It's a place where diverse perspectives meet, fostering a unique learning experience that goes beyond textbooks and lectures. What’s the best thing about your job?

I absolutely love everything about my job and my profession. It's fascinating how every set of data tells its own story, and it's my job to interpret these hidden patterns. Interacting with clients is just as fulfilling. There's a real sense of achievement in understanding their requirements and then delivering outcomes that go beyond what they hoped for. The joy and satisfaction I feel when I see their happy responses is the highlight of my work.

What advice would you give current students considering their future career? 

I  would advise current students, particularly those from a background similar to mine, to embrace hard work and to seize every opportunity that comes their way. It's essential to recognize that sometimes, landing a job directly after graduation can be challenging, it took me about a year and half to get employed. In such situations, look for opportunities to work as a trainee. This approach helps you understand how the Finnish job market operates while simultaneously trying to secure a job. Be proactive in building a network. Establish connections with professionals in your field through internships, university events, and online platforms like LinkedIn. These connections can often lead to job opportunities or valuable advice. 

Furthermore, don't underestimate the importance of soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and adaptability. In today's job market, employers value these skills just as much as technical expertise. Engaging in group projects or volunteer work can be great ways to develop these skills. 

Lastly, remember that student life is one of the best times of your life. While it's important to focus on your studies and career, don't just be a bookworm. Enjoy life outside your studies too. Balancing your professional aspirations with personal well-being and hobbies is the key.
