On 29 August 2017, The University Collegium of the University of Vaasa confirmed the external members elected to the University's new board for the term from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2021.

Johnny Åkerholm, an expert in economic policy, and Anne Korkiakoski, a board professional, will continue on the Board. Key elements of the University's strategy for the period to 2020 include strengthening the focus areas and boosting the societal, national and international influence of education and research.

"We assembled the Board with a view to achieving the best possible entity in light of the University's strategic objectives," says Professor Pirjo Laaksonen, Chair of the University Collegium.

"The members have a strong background in board work, as well as insight and experience in the academic world and our disciplines. Their work is supported by their extensive networks in the public and private sectors," Laaksonen continues.

"The Board members complement each other in their expertise and will contribute to reforming our University in a wide range of ways," says Jari Kuusisto, the University's Rector.

The Board of the University of Vaasa has nine members, five of whom come from outside the university community. In November, the personnel will elect three members from within the University, and the student union's board of representatives will elect one student member.
