This June, 201 students are receiving their master’s degree upon graduation from the University of Vaasa. The university is organising the degree ceremony ‘Publiikki’ to celebrate the students who have completed their master’s degree during the spring term on Wednesday 21 June.

Talvikki Ranta-Ylitalo graduates as a Master of Administrative Sciences in today’s degree ceremony. She studied social and health management.  The development of health and social services and the well-being of people are close to her heart.

Talvikki Ranta-Ylitalo started the master’s degree programme at a time when all studies took place remotely.

During their studies, these students, including Talvikki, have experienced exceptional times. The COVID-19 pandemic forced these students to undertake distance learning and to form connections with each other digitally.

– Distance learning has given these students the gift of flexibility, perseverance and the ability to adapt to changes. They have shown that they can cope with difficulties. They are ready to face the challenges ahead with courage and to look to the future with confidence, says Jyrki Vuorinen, Vice-Rector of Education.

Talvikki Ranta-Ylitalo praises the university’s good teaching arrangements.

– Studying was meaningful, the study units were well structured, and it was quick and easy to get help when needed. I think fondly about the whole experience, says Talvikki.

Young people look to the future with confidence

The COVID-19 pandemic showed that it is vital for us to be prepared to support and carry each other through crises. Together, we can overcome crises and influence the future.

– I have a positive outlook on the future. I want to promote and develop health and social services and study more in the future. However, it is important to live in the moment and enjoy it. The future is being built everyday day and in every moment, says Talvikki.

“Publiikki” is a biannual degree ceremony, in which diplomas are handed out to the graduates.

In addition to 333 students of various master’s degree programmes, 286 bachelors and five doctors will graduate from the University of Vaasa during the spring term. International students account for 3,3 % of the students who have completed a master’s degree. A total of 619 students will complete their bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes this spring.
