This June, 188 students are receiving their master’s degree upon graduation from the University of Vaasa. On Wednesday 19 June, the university organised the degree ceremony Publiikki to celebrate the students who have completed their master’s degree during the spring semester.

- This is one of the most important and unique day of your lives. Therefore, it is important to actually stop for a minute and enjoy the moment. I’m pleased to see that so many of you have your families and friends sharing this day with you, says Minna Martikainen, Rector of the University of Vaasa, in her speech.

- During the time of your studies, you have observed the upheavals in the world around you. There is a lot of history written in the last few years - more than anyone could probably have imagined five years ago. As you head towards the work life, a new and exciting chapter is opening up for you. I would like to say - do not be afraid. It's normal to feel uncertain when facing new things, like the beginning of your career.

This time, Publiikki was organised as two separate events. First graduation ceremony was for the Masters of Science in Administrative Sciences, Masters of Arts, MScs in Technology, and MScs in Economics and Business Administration graduating in industrial management, computing sciences and technical communication, and doctoral graduates within these fields. Second graduation ceremony was for the Masters and Doctors of Science in Economics and Business Administration.

- Today, you become our alumni. As an alumni, you are still an integral part of our community, and the university will always be your home. The University of Vaasa is proud of every alumnus. I hope that the university will continue to be a precious home to you for years to come.
