New deans for the University of Vaasa appointed

Deans for the new Schools of the University of Vaasa have been appointed. They will assume their duties on 1 January 2018 when the reformed organisation of the University of Vaasa starts its operation. Starting next year, the organisation of the university will consist of four Schools: Accounting and Finance, Management, Marketing and Communication, and Technology and Innovations.
Kuvassa (vas.): Adam Smale, Juha Junttila, Pirjo Laaksonen ja Harry Linnarinne

D.Sc. (Econ.) Juha Junttila, 52, has been appointed as the dean of the School of Accounting and Finance. He is currently working as professor of economics at the Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics. He is also serving as the programme director for the Banking and International Finance master's programme. Junttila received his doctorate in economics from the University of Oulu in 1999. His term as dean lasts until 31 July 2021.

D.Sc. (Econ.) Adam Smale, 40, has been appointed as the Dean of the School of Management. He is currently working as a Professor of Management in the University of Vaasa. He is the Head of the Department of Management and also heads the Human Resource Management research group. Smale received his doctorate in economics and business administration from the University of Vaasa in 2007. Smale is British and has lived in Vaasa since 2004. His term as dean lasts until 31 July 2020.

D.Sc. (Econ) Pirjo Laaksonen, 60, has been appointed as the dean of the School of Marketing and Communication. She is currently working as professor of marketing in the University of Vaasa. Laaksonen is also the head of the Department of Marketing and she also heads the Consumption Research and Customer Value Creation research group. She received her doctorate in economics from the former Vaasa School of Economics and Business Administration in 1992. Laaksonen's term as dean lasts until 31 July 2020.

D.Sc. (Tech) Harry Linnarinne, 52, has been appointed as the dean of the School of Technology and Innovations. He has previously served in several managerial positions, including as the CEO of five different limited companies, most recently in Stena Recycling Oy. Linnarinne received his doctorate in science from the Helsinki University of Technology in 2001. His term as dean lasts until 31 July 2021.

The dean runs the operation of the individual School, takes responsibility for its profitability, finances and efficiency, and acts as the manager of the School's employees. The duties also include developing the relevant disciplines and promoting the operation of multidisciplinary research platforms. The dean is responsible for developing and monitoring the quality of degree programmes.
