Pekka Lind, a lawyer and art collector from Vaasa, has donated more than 80 works from his extensive collection of Finnish art history to the University of Vaasa. The donation includes 12 watercolours by Nandor Mikola from different decades. The works are housed in the renovated student rooms of Tervahovi.

A video about the artist has been produced to unveil the significance of the works and can be viewed on the university's YouTube channel.

Nandor Mikola (1911-2006) was born and studied in Hungary and came to Helsinki in 1936 to work. He and his family settled first in Ilmajoki and then in Vaasa. Mikola was an accomplished watercolourist. He mostly painted nature in Ostrobothnia, the sea, forests, meadows and flowers. He also regularly went abroad for inspiration. Mikola became a Finnish citizen in the late 1940s and was awarded the title of professor in 1979.

The video features an interview with art collector Pekka Lind, who knew Mikola very well. Mikola himself appears in the video, portrayed by fellow artist Fritz Jakobsson from Vaasa.

The aim of Nandor Mikola's work was to highlight the vital importance of nature for human well-being. For this reason, Mikola's art is a perfect fit for the University of Vaasa's seaside campus. Art and culture contribute to the well-being of students and staff.

The video was scripted by Professor of Practise Elina Melgin together with Jukka Mantere, who also shot and mixed the video with the support of the University of Vaasa Foundation. The video is subtitled in English.
