Shakila Bu-Pasha

Background

I am a Researcher affiliated to the University of Vaasa. I worked as Project Manager under the Digital Economy platform. My previous work covers interdisciplinary research in communication law and data protection law/ General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) with keen focus on location data, personal data protection and privacy under EU law. The project led by me was "Influence of GDPR on Digital Business" ­(https://www.uwasa.fi/en/research/projects/influence-gdpr-digital-business), which aimed to explore how data-based businesses and innovation can be implemented in a privacy-protective environment without compromising personal data and other legal rights.

At the same time, building upon my previous expertise and as a member of the ECSL – European Centre for Space Law, my commitment extends to promoting legal research and building strong networks in the space law domain. Space law became a top priority for the European Commission in 2024; my research considers current European Union Space Law (EUSL) initiatives, as well as upcoming EU and international space law and policy activities.
