Research:

My main area of research is Financial Literacy and Financial Education.

Currently I am subproject leader in the Research Council of Finland project Digiconsumers and principal investigator in Investigame project. Both projects are large consortium projects together with other universities and research institutions.

Past projects include the Academy of Finland-funded projects Game-based Financial Education in Schools (2016-2018) and Financial Literacy and Over-indebtedness in Finland (2013-2017), ERDF-project PEEK (2019-2021) and Finnish National Agency of Education-funded project related on teacher training (2019-2021).

Other:

I am co-chair of the International G53 Research Network on Financial Literacy.

I am a member of the Finnish Council of Financial Literacy, coordinated by the Ministry of Justice.

I regularly give expert statements to the Finnish Parliament and its Economic Council.

I am a member of the supervisory board of OP Vaasa Bank.

I was the chairman of the Professors' Union's Vaasa Chapter (2015-2016) and represented the University of Vaasa in the national council of the Professors' Union in 2016-2018.

In 2012-2013, I was the president of the Finnish Economic Association.

I was the 2016 Recipient of the Warren Samuels Prize (together with Simon Cornee and Ariane Szafarz), awarded by the Association of Social Economics) and NEFE Best Paper on Financial Education Award in 2023 (with Gökhan Buturak and Saija Alanko). I have received the research achievement of the year award in 2013 and science communicator of the year award in 2022, both by the University of Vaasa.
