Times Higher Education: University of Vaasa improves World University Ranking result, climbs also in national ranking
The THE World University Ranking evaluates universities in five areas: Teaching (the learning environment); Research (volume, income and reputation); Citations (research influence); International outlook (staff, students and research); and Industry income (knowledge transfer). The rankings are compiled on the basis of a total of 13 performance indicators.
The University of Vaasa is now in the 351–400 ranking bracket among the 1799 universities evaluated worldwide. This includes 10 Finnish universities, among which the University of Vaasa was ranked 6th. In last year’s ranking, Vaasa was in the 401-500 bracket and ranked 8th nationally.
“This ranking success is a great achievement for our community. The outcome shows once more that our university is a great place for education and research. We are delighted about the result as it shows we are progressing in the right direction and that our continual improvements have an impact. I would like to thank all members of our university community for their contribution”, comments Martin Meyer, the Vice-rector for international affairs.
As an international research university, the University of Vaasa is ranked best among Finnish universities in terms of the number of citations, which is a key indicator for research influence in the ranking. This year’s results also show steady improvement across all indicators for international outlook, including the proportion of international students and staff as well as international co-authorship. We are also seeing improvement in reputational indicators for both teaching and research.
