University of Vaasa researchers on Stanford list: Ranked among the top two percent of the world’s most influential scientists

Several University of Vaasa researchers have been named in the recent edition of the Stanford University list of World Top 2% scientists.

The list, published in September 2024, uses Scopus citation data to assess the impact of researchers over the long term (career-long) and for one year (2023).

Ranked highest on the career-long list are Professor Martin Meyer, Vice Rector of the University of Vaasa (ranked 46,817), and Petri Helo, Professor of Industrial Management (ranked 78,579).

 Other researchers on the list include Marcelo Simões, Professor of Electrical Engineering; Vesa Suutari, Professor of Human Resource Management; Erkki K. Laitinen, Professor of Accounting; Anupam Dutta, Associate Professor of Applied Econometrics; Jouni Lampinen, Professor of Software Engineering; Hannu Laaksonen, Professor of Electrical Engineering; Xiaoshu Lü, Professor of Energy Technology; and Jarmo Alander, Professor of Production Automation. In total, ten researchers who are either currently working at or have retired from the University of Vaasa appear on the career-long list.

Visiting professor Nikos Hatziargyriou is also on Stanford’s career-long list, ranked at 5814.

Eleven researchers from the University of Vaasa were on the one-year list (2023) of world’s most influential researchers. Anupam Dutta, Associate Professor of Applied Econometrics, has the highest ranking (7,162). Other researchers on the list are Marko Kohtamäki, Professor of Strategy; Petri Helo, Professor of Industrial Management; Stephen Onifade, University Teacher of Economics; Martin Meyer, Vice Rector and Professor; Arto Ojala, Professor of International Business; Marcelo Simões and Hannu Laaksonen, Professors of Electrical Engineering; Joni Salminen, Associate Professor of Marketing; Muhammad Faheem, Postdoctoral Researcher in Computer Science; and retired Professor Jarmo Alander.

The valuations were calculated using all Scopus author profiles as of August 1, 2024. The database of top-cited scientists provides standardised information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator (c-score).
